1977-
* Owner/Operator of Albemarle Sound Ideas , a provider of consulting services in mass communications and event production. Since it's inception, A.S.I. has produced over fifty concerts featuring some of the top national acts in the fields of jazz, blues and R&B, provided consulting services to six political campaigns, and collaborated in management of more than twenty other special events. In addition, ASI has created several web sites, and produced dozens of specialty media products.

* Co-manager, Louisa Strayhorn for Virginia Beach City Council campaign. Responsibilities included strategic and tactical planning and execution, writing and/or editing of all campaign related copy, issuing press releases, and negotiating and conducting media buys.
1993-95:
* Host of Anarchy Overnight (The Mike Rau Show), a four to five-hour long nightly call-in talk show on WTAR-AM 790 radio in Norfolk, Va.
1992-93:
* Va. State Communications Director for Perot '92 Presidential Campaign. Besides being primary media spokesperson and liaison for the organization, responsibilities included copywriting and/or editing of all campaign related text, issuing press releases, and negotiating and conducting media buys. Participated in planning and executing all major special events for the organization in Virginia and D.C., and served as Mr. Perot's assistant press secretary during his visits to the state. Served on both the state and district steering committees of United We Stand, America.
1991-92:
* Host and Producer of Blues At Sunset, a radio program devoted to blues, heard on WLPM-AM 1450 in Suffolk, Va., Monday through Friday from 7-11 pm. Responsibilities included programming, production, copywriting, and voice-over performance for on-air commercial spots.
1991:
* Columnist for Upbeat Magazine, a monthly entertainment periodical.
* Media consultant for Brandt for House of Delegates campaign. Responsibilities included training in media relations for the candidate and staff, as well as writing, directing, and voice-over performance for a thirty-second television advertisement.
1990:
* Creator and producer of the critically acclaimed series of blues shows at Larkin's, in Virginia Beach, VA.
* Producer, Sixth Annual Elizabeth River Blues Festival for the Natchel' Blues Network.
* Founder, Friends of Progressive and Alternative Radio (F.O.P.A.R.), a non-profit organization advocating artistic consideration in radio programming.
